Kitchens for both hands!

Are you left-handed?
Well, then you will probably know that you are part of the 10.6% of the world’s population.

A minority.
Who has had to suffer discrimination in the past (oppressing minorities has always been a habit of the majority).

Luckily, the left is no longer commonly regarded as the devil’s hand, and even left-handed people are free to eat, write, and express their art, with their left hand (or foot, ear, or whatever…).

But why are right-handed people the majority? Since when?

Well, even in this case it seems that evolution is involved.

Lateralization seems to have begun millions of years ago (1), when our first ancestors came down from the tree and moved onto land.

According to a theory that seems to be gaining more and more credence among the anthropological community, when we became bipeds we differentiated the functions on the different sides of the brain to improve its efficiency (2).

So the left hemisphere has specialized in language, logic and practicality. Consequently, delegating the dexterity to the right hand, dominated by that hemisphere (3).

From the discoveries made by analyzing the cuts made by the teeth in the skins of hunted animals, and the wear in the first rudimentary tools, it was possible to understand that Homo Habilis already had a preference for the right hand.

Going further, left-handed people were also discovered among Neanderthals. It is even thought that the percentage of left-handed people among the total population was very similar to today’s.

However, I can provide professional induction cookers that are suitable for both right-handed and left-handed people.

I don’t put as much effort into my segue as I used to, huh?
