Cook’s stress

Working as a cook has always been stressful.
And, once again, the proof comes from a work of art.

Trinkender Koch” (a drinking cook) was painted by an anonymous southern German artist in the 19th century.

The cook is in his kitchen, in front of a wood stove and his tools, which at that time were mainly copper cookware, knives and wooden ladles.

On the ground, some onion stalks: it is not clear to me whether they were processing waste or still to be used (at the time the hygiene rules were not so scrupulous).

Perhaps to relieve fatigue, perhaps because that loneliness begins to burden, or maybe simply because he was thirsty, the cook allows himself a sip of wine directly from the bottle.

In conclusion: drink responsibly, but if you’re working in a professional kitchen don’t drink at all.
