Among all the characters of the Italian Renaissance, no one has been subject of so many rumours like Lucrezia Borgia.
Illegitimate daughter of Pope Alexander VI, she was accused of incest (both with her father and her brother Cesare), adultery, murders and other infamous “court plots”. And most of the times unjustly, by the record.
She married thrice. The first husband was dismissed, due to “his inability to consummate the marriage” (that was recorded officially. There was no such thing as “right to privacy” back then). The second one was killed, very likely by some hitmen sent by the Borgias themselves.
But let’s get to the point of this post: at the banquet for her third marriage, with the Duke Alfonso D’Este, a chef from Bologna brought this new type of pasta, shaped like long, curly and golden strips, reminiscent of the bride’s splendid hair.
This new pasta, the legend says, is known today as tagliatelle.
Speaking of which… Fancy some kitchen equipment?
