Lamps, Ozone and Titanium Dioxide

When discussing hoods with UV Lamp + Ozone technology, we should specify another crucial actor: Titanium Dioxide (TiO2).

Don’t be fooled by its name: actually, it is also used as a food additive, for cosmetics and for dental hygiene (given its “whitening” power, to use the toothpaste adv jargon).

But, let’s get back to us: what is TiO2’s task inside an extractor hood with “UV Lamp + Ozone” technology? Being a photocatalyst!

This material is used in fact to “slow down” the speed of a chemical transformation induced by light radiation, concentrating the UV rays, thus preventing them from dispersing.

Photocatalysis breaks down, by oxidizing them, many volatile organic compounds, which are the most harmful elements of cooking fumes, as well as various inorganic compounds. Making then the job of traditional filters much easier!

Furthermore, TiO2 filters are non-toxic, biocompatible, and easily available on the market for any replacements (but they still have a lifespan of over 10 years!).

In conclusion: Titanium Dioxide is one more reason to opt for a Hood with “UV Lamp + Ozone” Technology in your professional kitchen.
