As far as we know, this is the first “food pic” ever taken. Or maybe it’s better to talk about “food daguerreotype“…
This ante-litteram “food porn” dates back to 1845; the photographer was Henry Fox Talbot.
The subjects are a pineapple (at the time it was more of an exotic object than an edible fruit) and two baskets full of peaches.
The choice of the tablecloth, a Tartan pattern perpendicularly aligned to the edge of the table, is not a coincidence. Indeed, Talbot took care to give the viewer the impression of depth.
Apparently, the first food influencer in history wanted to leverage both the aesthetic sense and the wonders of geometry!
Anyway… if you wish to admire this photo (along with many other works of art), you can go to the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.
If you want to try your hand at Food Photography, well, I’m sorry… It’s not my area of expertise, so I wouldn’t know what to recommend.
If, on the other hand, you want to cook food instead of capturing it, I have the best catering equipment to offer!
