In case you’ve never done it before, if you happen to reach Venice by train, you’ll notice a splendid Baroque church just behind the train station.
This is called Santa Maria di Nazareth, but it is also known as Chiesa degli Scalzi, as it was founded by the Order of the Discalced Carmelites (“scalzi” means discalced in Italian).
Pop in, and you won’t regret it!
Among the many works of art that you can admire, there are also two paintings by Giambattista Tiepolo and two by Niccolò Bambini.
Right nearby, the Ponte degli Scalzi, a stone bridge from the 1930s, one of 5 that crosses the Grand Canal.
And right in front of this, the “Ai scalzi” restaurant, where you can enjoy splendid dry-aged meat, displayed in the Inox Bim double-door Climatic Cabinet!
