On April Fool’s Day 1957, the British BBC aired a fake documentary, set in Ticino (an Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland), showing a farming family harvesting spaghetti from (obviously) a spaghetti tree.
Maybe because spaghetti wasn’t a common meal in the UK at the time, or maybe because the documentary was incredibly convincing… hundreds of people reached out the Broadcasting Office asking where they could purchase their own spaghetti bush.
The guys at BBC, as in the ancient tradition of British Humour, replied: “place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best“.
In conclusion, either you have a “green thumb” or not, if you need good equipment for cooking, give me a shout!
